Lawyers do not rule out that the European Court of Human Rights (ЕСHR)
will take a decision on the cases of three Moldovan lyceums, which use
the Romanian language for the teaching, in the Transnistrian region.
Representatives
of the plaintiffs, Member of the Promo-Lex non-governmental
association Ion Manole told Infotag that they complain of violating
their education, appeal and non-discrimination rights. The ban on their
registration in Tiraspol on the part of the authorities of the
unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic in 2004 and the teaching
on the basis of the academic programs by the Moldova Ministry of
Education and Youth on the basis of the Latin script served as a
pretext for their appeal.
The complaint was signed by more
than 120 teachers and schoolchildren. The appeal is against the
Government of Moldova and Russia.
In Manole’s words, the ЕСHR
usually considers cases on the basis of correspondence with involved
sides, which usually present their viewpoints and notes in written
form, but the sides can ask to conduct hearings.
“The Russian
government asked to apply this procedure. At present the ЕСHR is
considering Russia’s request and we consider that there is no reason
for declining it”, he said.
Manole remarked that the plaintiffs
have not put forward any financial claims, as they consider that at
this moment the protection of rights is more important than money
compensations.
“The consideration of these cases is now at the
final stage, as all the sides presented their positions and remarks in
a written form”, he said.
