President Vladimir Voronin agreed with his Russian counterpart within a meeting held in Moscow that the Transnistrian conflict can be settled only by respecting Moldova’s integrity on the basis of the principle of sovereignty and keeping its status of neutrality.
The results of Vladimir Voronin’s visit paid to Moscow have been reported by deputy Premier, Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan within the meeting he had with Ambassadors of EU member states accredited to Moldova.
According to the head of Moldovan diplomacy, within the meeting the two heads of state also discussed issues of mutual interest, including the Transnistrian conflict. The officials also discussed the resumptions of negotiations in the "5+2" format. Stratan said that the visit paid to Moscow and the discussions the presidents had, allowed the Moldovan-Russian issues to be approached constructively.
Referring to the relations between Moldova and the EU, Stratan touched upon the priorities for 2008 which deal with the full implementation of stipulations of the Action Plan Moldova-EU, the negotiations of a new cooperation document with the EU, the implementation of the agreements meant to facilitate the visa regime and readmission, as well as Asymmetric Commercial Preferences Moldova is to be offered since March, 1, 2008.
The head of the Moldovan diplomacy specified that the president’s visit paid to the European institutions, at the end of 2007, allowed them to evaluate the degree of cooperation with the EU, and the meeting between the Moldovan president with the president of the European Commission held in January, 2008, allowed the officials to single out the priorities for 2008.
