Possibilities of restarting a full-scale process of negotiations
between Moldova and Transnistria were negotiated here Wednesday between
Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Moldova Valery
Kuzmin and Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov.
The meeting was
held behind closed doors, the official Transnistrian television
reported last night, but said the Russian diplomat had spoken out for
the conflicting sides’ soonest-possible returning to the negotiating
table and for eliminating barriers to Transnistria’s external trade.
The
meeting was arranged within the framework of preparation for the
soon-to-be visit to be paid to Tiraspol by a representative Moscow
delegation to be led by the First Deputy Secretary of the Russian
Federation’s Security Council, former Russian Ambassador to Moldova
Yury Zoubakov.
