The statements were made after representatives of the Transnistria n customs and security services attacked two Moldovan nationals in Varnita village in Anenii Noi district on February 5. One of them was later detained.
One of the victims Petru Panteleiciuc told the reporters that he was attacked because he tried to seek help from the Varnita police that is subordinated to the Moldovan constitutional authorities. He said that his brother was mistreated, arrested and taken into an unknown direction, while their mobile phones, identification documents, the car with agricultural products worth about 1,000 USD were confiscated.
Pavel Postica, jurist of Promo-Lex, said that though informed about the given incident, the members of the Joint Control Commission refused to go to the scene, arguing that it was a smuggling-related case. According to Postica, the conflict concerns the regional security and the Commission should get involved.
The president of Promo-Lex Ion Manole said that he questions the efficiency of the law enforcement bodies from the security zone, especially of the Bender police, in the circumstances in which Russian technique and military men were stationed on the territory of the Police Commissariat and the flag on the building belongs to the Russian Federation.
Promo-Lex called on the constitutional authorities to take steps to set free Viorel Panteleiciuc and transfer him and his goods to the territory controlled by the Moldovan authorities.
