While in Munich, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin held meetings with
Daniel Fried, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and
Eurasian Affairs, and with Javier Solana, the EU Foreign & Security
Policy Chief and Secretary General of the European Union Council, last
Saturday.
The parties considered the current shape of the
Transnistrian negotiation process and perspectives of a lasting
settlement of the conflict.
According to the
Presidential Press Service, Daniel Fried confirmed the United States’
stance on resolving the Transnistrian dispute on the basis of Moldova’s
territorial integrity, and stressed the importance of a
soonest-possible resumption of the 5+2 talks.
During the
meeting with Javier Solana, the parties also confirmed the importance
of a soonest-possible negotiation restarting and a peaceful settlement
of the Transnistria conflict on the basis of the Republic of Moldova’s
sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Voronin and Solana
exchanged opinions on the current state and perspectives of cooperation
between Moldova and the European Union, and pointed out the progress
this republic has achieved in implementing of the EU-Moldova European
Neighborhood Policy Action Plan.

Solana stand for maintaining a constructive dialog between Moldova and
the European Union. They emphasized the importance of the visit to
Chisinau to be paid by Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Union’s
Commissioner for External Relations and the European Neighbourhood
Policy, on February 14-15.
