The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Ukraine will speed up
bilateral consultations to better coordinate their positions on the
Transnistrian conflict settlement, the two Presidents, Vladimir Putin
and Victor Yushenko, decided in Moscow on Tuesday.
The
two leaders spoke out for realization of their joint initiatives within
the 5+2 format negotiations. According to the 2008 Russia-Ukraine
Action Plan signed by the Presidents, experts from the two countries
will focus on the Transnistrian settlement proceeding from common
positions on and approaches to solving the problem.
Putin
and Yushenko reaffirmed the Transnistrian conflict should be solved
with the observance of the Republic of Moldova’s territorial integrity
and by means of legal fixing of a special legal status for
Transnistria.
