Minister of Reintegration Vasile Sova focused on encouraging the activity of the working groups in Transnistrian settlement with the so-called minister of Foreign Affairs of Tiraspol, Valeri Litkai.
Vasile Sova, representative of Chisinau in the talks for Transnistrian settlement, stated for BASA-press that during the meeting on Friday at the OSCE Mission Office in Bender, the participants discussed "the specific steps to be taken by the working groups for their productive and dynamic activity".
The minister neither specified what those specific steps are nor when there will be a new meeting of the working groups between Chisinau and Tiraspol. "It is important that both Chisinau and Tiraspol representatives were willing to hold consultations", Sova said.
The need to call the joint working groups together was established during the meeting of President Vladimir Voronin with the Transnistrian leader, Igor Smirnov, on April 11. A working group for confidence building between Chisinau and Tiraspol met in Odessa, on April 23 to examine the railway traffic issue. The first meeting of three working groups took place in Bender, on April 18. Their activity focused on the development of infrastructure, social sphere and protection of health, ecology and agriculture.
At the end of 2007, Vladimir Voronin proposed a set of initiatives for building confidence and security between Chisinau and Tiraspol. They provide for the demilitarization, establishment of joint military forces between Chisinau and Tiraspol and replacement of own military units with training centers for peacemakers. Eight working groups have been established to carry out these initiatives.
