Moscow welcomes the restarting of direct contacts between the Chisinau
and Tiraspol leaders, and is interested in restoring stability and
trust on the Dniester, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey
Lavrov stated meeting with Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign
Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan here on Thursday.
Lavrov
reaffirmed Russia’s adherence to a political settlement of the
Transnistria problem on the basis of observing Moldova’s sovereignty
and territorial integrity and of working out a special, reliably
guaranteed legal status for Transnistria.
The two voiced
satisfaction over the high level and a good dynamic of the
Moldo-Russian political dialog. They believe this permits the two
countries to advance toward solving practical problems of the bilateral
cooperation, to discuss the perspectives of improving trade and
economic ties, brisk up interaction in the humanitarian sphere.
Andrei
Stratan briefed his Moscow colleague on the National Security Concept
adopted by the Moldovan Parliament last week, and on the realization of
priorities in this direction.
The Moldovan and Russian
foreign ministries signed a Plan of consultations for the rest of 2008.
The meeting was attended by Moldovan Ambassador to the Russian
Federation Vasile Sturza.
