The Joint Control Commission (JCC) for the Transnistrian Conflict
Settlement held an ordinary meeting in Bendery, at which the
delegations reported why Nikolai Kuichoglo, a Bendery businessman, and
Dorotcaia village resident Stefan Berzan had been detained in the
Transnistria Security Zone.
At the previous ordinary
meeting held last Thursday, the sides exchanged accusations of
kidnapping people from the Security Zone, and the JCC demanded
explanations from the Moldovan police and Transnistrian militia.
Moldovan
Deputy Minister of the Interior Sergei Golovaci refuted accusations of
Kuichoglo’s kidnapping. He said Kuichoglo himself came to police upon
learning that he had been wanted for a major theft. Currently, he is
staying at penitentiary institution #13 in Chisinau.
Representative
of the Transnistrian Security Council Constantin Komlenok reported that
Berzan had been detained for selling a counterfeit 100-dollar bill. And
that was far from the first detention of that gentleman at his attempts
to tout fake dollar cash.
Russian JCC Co-Chairman Victor
Shanin stated that such incidents were fruits of isolated activities by
the sides’ law-enforcement organs. In 1999 and 2001, he said, Chisinau
and Tiraspol concluded agreements on collaboration of the Moldovan
police and Transnistrian militia, but presently the documents are not
working. He said that was a real pity, and Russia stands for resuming
the interaction.
